Whether you’re traveling with a young child or an infant, there are certain places that will always be favorites. In this blog post, I’ll share the things my toddlers loved about Zürich, Switzerland – from the architecture and parks to the delicious food! Whether you’re planning your own trip, with or without toddlers, I hope you find something to catch your interest too!
All the playgrounds
My husband and I joked at one point that we were doing a playground tour of Switzerland instead of visiting family.
The boys insisted on stopping at every playground we saw.
These playgrounds are conveniently tucked in neighborhoods, off the main road, or attached to schools. Each playground is different but enjoyed by my almost 2 year olds and my adventurous 3.5 year old and many older kids there as well.

Mini grocery store carts
The local Migros grocery store had a mini grocery store cart for my toddler to help with the shopping. There was a handle up higher for parents to help guide the cart but still give the toddler independence. The omnidirectional wheels were a plus!
Since we weren’t shopping for regular groceries this was a perfect option to allow my toddler to help and I didn’t have to carry a basket. We handed every item to him or let him choose some too.

Water fountains
We arrived at the end of summer so it was still hot and the water fountains were more common than the playgrounds and just as welcome.
They functioned as a refreshing drink and water refill but also a mini splash pad! We could spend 30 minutes or more splashing and trying to drink (without falling in!) at each one.

Zürich lake
Zürich lake always has something to offer.
From the private boats, the ferries, the swans and other birds, my toddlers were happy to watch everything.
Many of the private boat owners waved to any kids watching, much to their delight.
The swans and private boats made waiting for our ferry easier!
In high summer, they do have piers open for swimming but it closes as the weather starts to cool.

Street musicians
The musicians on the street playing everything from violins to tubas and saxophones entertained people of all ages.
There were older couples dancing to their wedding song and toddlers grooving along to the beat.
Sprungli Lindt Factory
While parts of the tour might be hard for toddlers to enjoy, they did provide a stroller if you forgot yours.
The best part of the tour, for everyone, was the chocolate tasting.
They let you taste liquid dark, milk, and white chocolate after explaining their refining process.
You can also join in their quality testing and check final bars.
Best of all, you can try many flavors of the Lindt Lindor balls!

Public Transportation
“Ready, go!” At every stop my toddlers would ask for the train or bus to keep going.
Children under 5 are free and half priced from 5-12.
Easy to use and reliable schedules. Each major station has a terminal that can be in English to help you buy tickets.
The Food
From gelato to bread rolls and pretzel sandwiches, the food is delicious and easy to find.
While my twins (almost 2) didn’t want the gelato, my 3.5 year old couldn’t get enough of it in the heat.
They all loved the bread, any type, any time we found it. And bakeries were common.
From rolls, to loafs, or pretzels, everything was a favorite.

Not a fan: Holding hands
With all the cars, holding hands was a safety requirement.
Zürich is stroller friendly so that was preferred for both kids and parents!
Have you been to Zürich? If so what was your favorite part? If not, what part would you like to see?
